Transhuman Pop by a Former Basketball Talent

Transhuman Pop by a Former Basketball Talent

Sevdaliza High Alone (2022)

Before Sevda Alizadeh became Sevdaliza, and in that role one of the most promising names in independent pop music, she used to be a basketball talent. One that got a scholarship and was exercising with the Dutch national team. After a few injuries—and a short career in marketing—Sevda decided to focus on music in her mid-twenties, and it didn't take long for her futuristic pop to take off. The Dutch-Iranian artist knows how to integrate a myriad of influences—from reggaeton to rave to, as in the case of her 2022 single “High Alone”, indie—and how to team up with high profile collaborators such as (former?) Elon Musk spouse Grimes. But it’s the transhuman spin in her work, which becomes most apparent in the video clips to her music, that make Sevdaliza so special.
